Jumbo milestone

I've got nothing really worthwhile to say this week only that this is post 757. I know we should have put up something when we hit 747 posts. But seeing as its a plane milestone have a picture of an old jumbo jet my Granddad took*.

An East African airways jet 1970's

*He lived near Heathrow so has an excuse.

Decade.

Not really sure how to celebrate this, but the blog has been up and running for 10 years now. Officially since December 2009, every Sunday I've been putting up a piece whether I've wanted to or not. I outlined most of this a month back so if you really want to rehash, you can read it here.

I guess you can have another free Hardy Boys book to read while the next 10 years come around.
This is the UK version of The Shore Road Mystery, Expect the original sometime about christmas.

And right on cue, here's the original text on Christmas day in the morning.

9 years.

Finally through with scanning in all of my aunts photos,we collected up when we cleared her place out last year.  I have a bunch on my hard drive ready to edit and cut to size, but for now scanning is done.  I still have all of our photos to do and whatever, is on those 8 mil films we had over the years but all our slides and my aunts photos are done now.

Sad news is that we lost my uncle in the week, he'd been ill for ages and my mum n dad are going down to my other aunt's place to help out.  I have work and am definitely not invited although I do have leave left which is galling.   At least I have a bunch of photos to send down.

And finally its 9 years since I started this blog, even though I've fuck all plans for next year when it reaches 10 years.  I hope to still do this as far as I can.

Oh and I finished the secret of the old mill and am typing up the original version as I can't find the original text online.

500

Its my 500th post here. I didn't realise that I'd reached that milestone til I'd logged in. Officially I'm coming up for 9  years here on blogger and for better or worse I still enjoy it.  I should celebrate and that or at least put a cake gif up or something.
Happy anniversary.
Celebration over I wanted to talk about Tit bits magazine a sort of weekly world news but old dead and English. I'd seen it about in shops that dealt with ephemera and the like, and always wrote it off as some sort of porno wannabe. It doesn't exist now but it was a magazine that summarised the news into bite sized stories and tabloid style trash.  Looking through the discarded boxes at the bootsale today we finally grabbed a copy along with Drexciya The Quest CDR and some shoes.

My  copy's from Nov 1977 so I'll do a run through on this.

On the inside cover is some Elvis tat celebrating the newly dead king.
Page 3 is the only political bit here going after then PM James Callaghan.

A weird story about martial break ups in high rise blocks. This is from an estate in Mitcham South London. Battery Hen wives barks the title, its all a bit sinister if you ask me.

A nice ad for Ultra Hi-Fi units (part of Thorn Emi)

Some quite frankly odd looking sculptures here, from a berk in Switzerland. Also looks like they'd fail health and safety if done today.

A few bits of interest as visionhire are offering a pong tv game along with their 20'' colour telly rental. Also a brief bit on palaeo diet / preserving wild food stocks a good 30 odd years before Kew decided to do  the same with all the worlds flora.  Interesting it starts with scientists believe.

Its Sterling Hayden and he's on the grass. A weird one this as the Dr Strangelove actor claims he quit booze and took up marijuana.  Lived on a houseboat and died of cancer.

Weird Z list celeb precursor thing with the Schwepps ad blokes daughter saying he's a sexpot.  Looking up on IMDB it seems she was briefly married to Boycey from Fools n horses and had a bit part in Fawlty Towers.

A buzz box to help you kick the fags, I wonder what ever happened to bio feedback devices sounds like quackery to me.

A big ole ad for Embassy fags here and some dubious slimming advice on the facing page. Just douse yourself in cold water and you could lose weight too.

Center pages have a full colour pictorial of a motorised harem complete with titty shots. Personally its just an upmarket paedo van / passion wagon but what do I know.

More car bollocks here along with an ad for Mobil super oil.

We hit the problem pages  here along with an ad for Southern Comfort on the facing page.

We have a page on how to kiss and how to put marzipan on a cake also Angela Bradshaw says what happens to film stars after 40.

Eric Morecambe had a column here and there is a vaguely naughty comic strip from the Sporting Spagthorpes.

Coming to the end here so as its all sports bollocks will say there is a full page ad for a proto vape thing called MD4, a passion Pill for the over 50's (its an implant) and the classified ads (porn, dating, new age tat and accordions).  Finally we have the letter pages and on the back page a bunch of music on tape or LP, looks bastard horrendous if truth be told.

So there you go if this gets to I don't know 100 views I'll make this into a PDF for you to download.

A milestone of such.

Didn't realise this until I checked in but this will be my 333rd post up here, not that you get anything for this, just noted and that.

Its a bit of a round up special this time with some weird RPGs on Android / PC, a brief bit more on the Vita SDK and finally Mitchum.

Odd RPG's
Been going through an old copy of Famitsu at bedtime, its the issue where they talk to Prof Layton developer Level 5 about stuff, but that's not why I'm here, they have a strange Japan only RPG selection for PC and Mobile.

So far I've seen one where your avatars are cars in female form, there's a Toyota, a Nissan and what I think is a Mitsubishi all represented by anime girls.  There are a few more weird ones

Weird tower making sim with girls wielding tools.

WW2 war sim with girls taking the place of tanks and planes and that.

Oh and Animal X Monster for Android.  Some weird Pachinko rpg free 2 play thing for mobiles.
Stream here.  Skip ahead to 10 min mark for action, looks much more fun than regular Pachinko.

Incidentally there are no translations or anything so if you want to test these out and are fluent or have access to the Japanese google Play store see what they're like as I doubt they'd run in blue stacks.

Mitchum!

Finally saw an ad for this on TV (though still no actual product in the shop).  For those following for a while I did a post on how I did a bit of market research/ focus testing for them awhile back.  I got £5 for my troubles and never saw anything of it. Looks like nothings changed.

Vita SDK.

There's a bit more on this at Yifan Lu's site and a write up on some technical hacking bits and bobs.  Its quite involved the hack and required you to be part of the Sony Publisher license (now defunct).   If you went through all these hoops and such, you could run homebrew stuff on Vita (not piracy) so get coding those emulators.

300

This is just an awful little post celebrating the fact we have reached the milestone of  300 posts, and telling you that our regular year end review is coming on Christmas day in the morning, and boxing day with the usual errors and omissions accepted due to my faulty memory.

That's all.

Pf Slot

We've been digging into this obscure little web game from way back when.  Its essentially a HTML page with a shockwave clip and brief description in Japanese.

The actual SWF game itself is a Puyo Puyo version of a pachislo slot machine, you gain 100 credits and have to match 4 puyos of the same colour so they disappear, the game ends at 300 points (originally you could download it from Sonicteams website when you reached that amount) and you play again.

I originally came across this through the old Insertcredit site  (not the rather moribund new version) when I first joined the Internet age, 10 or so years back.  It was to promote a Dreamcast version of Puyo Puyo Fever along with a slider puzzle (that old make the picture by sliding tiles) and various wallpaper.  We had this on our old PC along with some other stuff and forgot all about it.  Clearing out our old PC we found this and decided to give it a translation, and alter the graphics so they read in English.  I'm not sure what you'll need to alter the SWF file, but Libre Office can handle the webpage side of things, and that is mainly done now.  All it needs is the text cleaned up and its ready to play.

1 year on

Well well, a whole year has gone by.  We started with slang and ended up with scan of the week.  I'd like to do one of the whole flashback to earlier times but I've had a look at my early posts and boy we really didn't hit our stride till May.

Anyway here is some more slang,  courtesy of my boss.   It concerns the bass from radios and when its really strong like on some dance genres we call it Woofy.  From the bass, as it goes woof, woof, woof in a song or a chavs motor as it rattles along with its windows down.

Anyway we'll be back sunday with the scan of the week from Sega.
